BNYS Private Lesson Scholarship Program
The Bloomington Normal Youth Symphony sponsors up to twelve one year $750 scholarships each academic year.
These scholarships are to be used exclusively for paying for private music lessons for standard orchestral instruments (excluding piano), and will be paid directly to the teachers.
Scholarship are available regardless of financial need.
There are 2 categories of scholarship – scholarships for those who are currently taking or have previously taken private lessons and for those who have never taken private lessons.
Qualifications
+ Student must be enrolled in his or her school’s music program on the instrument. (Home schooled students are exempt.)
+ Student must be between 14 and 18 years old.
+ Student must commit to play with the Bloomington Normal Youth Symphony if the scholarship is offered and accepted. Rehearsals are Monday evenings September through May.
+ Private teacher must be a recognized instructor.

2023-2024 Lesson Scholarship Auditions: TBA
Students should complete and submit the application below and then play an audition piece before a small panel of qualified musicians chosen to include those proficient on instruments played by the student applicants. Applicants will be contacted to schedule an audition time after submitting the lesson scholarship application.
Preference may be given to those who play instruments needed to provide a full complement of instruments in the youth symphony. This may vary year to year.
Students will be made aware of the decision on the scholarship prior to the first Fall rehearsal. Scholarship to begin in September.
